New King on the Block
It's worth nothing-- if for no other reason then that this sort of stuff interests me-- that the Drudge Report has at least partially vacated its throne as the go-to source for breaking news by ignoring the Plame investigation. (Drudge is currently headlining a hurricane that's not-quite-yet-a-hurricane that won't hit land 'til Saturday, as a case in point.)
Supplanting Matt Drudge is RawStory, which, from what I hear, is now being read in discriminating newsrooms around the country.
Of course, part of this is partisanship, but it's worth remembering that Matt Drudge weaved his empire from the threads of Monica's blue dress. It will be interesting to see if Rawstory maintains its kingpin status beyond the Plame affair-- and if it can become a true ongoing competitor to the Drudge Report.
If so, it's a huge crack in the power of the Wurlitzer, by any accounting.
